Twitter Activists Work To Identify White Nationalists At Charlottesville Rally, Jennifer Lawrence Joins Cause

A Twitter account called “Yes, You’re Racist” has been working over the weekend and into the week to identify people photographed attending the white nationalist and white supremacist “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. Actress Jennifer Lawrence joined in by encouraging her followers to help the racist-exposing account identify marchers.

The Twitter account works by sharing images taken of white supremacists during the march and asking its followers to identify them. Once identified, “Yes, You’re Racist” shares the name of the white supremacist.

One of the earlier tweets from this weekend read, “If you recognize any of the Nazis marching in Charlottesville, send me their names/profiles and I’ll make them famous.”

Lawrence, who does not have a Twitter, shared the same image on Facebook, writing, “These are the faces of hate. Look closely and post anyone you find. You can’t hide with the internet you pathetic cowards!”

The Twitter account has managed to identify several neo-Nazis and white supremacists in attendance of the march turned riot on Saturday. Additionally, the account has, at least on one occasion, incorrectly identified a man who was not at the rally but had appeared in images with a Nazi armband on at a previous Trump rally.

The events in Charlottesville began over the weekend when white nationalists, neo-Nazis, and Ku Klux Klan members gathered to protest the removal of a statue of Confederate military leader Robert E. Lee.

The hate groups clashed with protesters following the initial march. During the clash, James Alex Fields, an alleged Nazi sympathizer, drove his car into the crowd, killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer and injuring 19 others. Fields has been charged with second-degree murder, hit and run, and three counts of malicious wounding.
