After Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson and Russian President Vladimir Putin sat down for an interview, many journalists have criticized Carlson’s limp style that allowed many of Putin’s outlandish claims to go uncorrected.
Carlson conducted a two-hour interview with Putin, now posted to X. In the interview, the topic of Adolf Hitler’s invasion of Poland arose. The two spoke about Europe’s history in which Putin cited Nazi rhetoric. Carlson did not challenge Putin’s claims.
Putin said, “So before World War II, Poland collaborated with Hitler. And although it did not yield to Hitler’s demands, it still participated in the partitioning of Czechoslovakia together with Hitler, as the Poles had not given the Danzig corridor to Germany, and went too far, pushing Hitler to start World War II by attacking them.”
Respected historians have universally blamed Nazi Germany for instigating World War II.
Putin claimed Hitler was forced to invade Poland because they did not cooperate down the line. Users on X pointed out Putin’s irony.
“The irony of Putin, the self-appointed ‘de-Nazificator’ of Europe, openly embracing the Nazi historical narrative of WWII.”
After the interview, Carlson and Putin both face criticism. Carlson said to viewers, “Vladimir Putin believes that Russia has a historic claim to parts of western Ukraine. So our opinion would be to view it in that light as a sincere expression of what he thinks.”
Carlson’s interview has been widely criticized for not pushing back on Putin’s comments on a wide range of issues.
Carlson was fired by Fox News last year after his racist text messages became public.
