Trump Supporter At Detroit Rally Waving ‘Auto Workers For Trump’ Was Not An Auto Worker

A supporter at Donald Trump’s rally in Michigan wildly waved his sign “auto workers for Trump” last month.

But the supporter raised questions when he later told the Detroit News that he was not, in fact, an auto worker.

The former president delivered a speech at Drake Enterprises, a parts supplier in Clinton Township, Detroit, in which he spoke about the concerns over electric vehicles.

Trump’s attendance came in response to the United Auto Workers’ continued strike against Ford, General Motors and Stellantis.

Trump told the rally attendees: “You can be loyal to American labor or you can be loyal to the environmental lunatics.”

A journalist from the Detroit News asked another of the crowd members with a “Union Workers for Trump” placard about his involvement in the rally.

In conversation with the reporter, the individual admitted that he was not a member of a union.

The event was attended by an estimated 500 Trump supporters, and Drake Enterprises boasted a non-union workforce of about 150.

The campaign never specified that it was to be solely attended by Drake Enterprises employees.

Trump’s response came just a day after President Joe Biden joined the union’s picket line at the invitation of the United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain.

Fain refused to meet with Trump while he was in Michigan and criticized the GOP candidate, “[Trump] serves the billionaire class and that’s what’s wrong with this country.”

He called Trump’s appearance at the non-unionized facility a “pathetic irony.”

In his speech, Trump addressed the electric car debate, “If you want to buy an electric car, that’s absolutely fine. I’m all for it. But we should not be forcing consumers to buy electric vehicles they don’t want to buy.”

Trump told the rally attendees that negotiations between the UAS and Ford, General Motors and Stellantis “don’t mean as much as you think.”

Kevin Munoz, spokesman for Biden’s reelection campaign, called Trump’s comments “incoherent” and “a pathetic, recycled attempt to feign support for working Americans.”
