Former President Donald Trump admitted that he wanted to award himself the Medal of Honor while he was Commander in Chief, but was discouraged from going through with it because it would be “inappropriate.” Trump was speaking in Tampa Saturday night at an event for Turning Point USA, a right-wing student activist organization.
Trump claimed that while he was the most powerful person in the United States and maybe the world, he was also “the most persecuted person in the history of our country.”
He delivered more of that classic Trump word salad when he added, “I was always fighting these people that were trying to persecute me. I didn’t have time to think about getting persecuted because I was fighting persecution. Certainly, there’s been no politician or president treated like I’ve been treated.”
Now that he puts it that way, Trump probably has been through as much or more trauma as the average Medal of Honor recipient.
Trump has been on this speaking tour while evidence presented by the January 6 Congressional committee in recent hearings has been looking more and more damning by the day.
The ex-President is likely attempting to distract from these developments, but most media outlets are still hyper-fixated on the January 6 committee hearings whenever they come up.
He also referenced the hearings at a Friday rally in Phoenix, Arizona, where he claimed they were a hoax ginned up by Democrats to prevent him from running for President in 2024. “If I announced that I was not going to run any longer for political office, the persecution of Donald Trump would stop immediately,” he claimed.
