Claiming it was “purposefully distorted,” Donald Trump has added a painting of himself, hanging in the Colorado State Capitol, to his long list of nemeses.
On Sunday, Trump posted a furious tirade to Truth Social, criticizing the portrait of himself and demanding the governor have it removed.
In his typical fashion, Trump wrote, “Nobody likes a bad picture or painting of themselves, but the one in Colorado, in the State Capitol, put up by the Governor, along with all other Presidents, was purposefully distorted to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before.”

He continued, “She must have lost her talent as she got older. In any event, I would much prefer not having a picture than having this one, but many people from Colorado have called and written to complain. In fact, they are actually angry about it!”
There is no evidence to support Trump’s claim that any supporters have complained about his portrait. In fact, contrary to Trump’s assertion, many Republicans have commented that the portrait appears to capture the President accurately.
In response to Trump, Shelby Wieman, a spokesperson for Democratic Gov. Jared Polis (D), issued a statement that noted Polis “was surprised to learn the President of the United States is an aficionado of our Colorado State Capitol and its artwork.”
She continued, “We appreciate the President and everyone’s interest in our capitol building and are always looking for any opportunity to improve our visitor experience.”
The portrait was painted by Sarah Boardman, who has honored a variety of past figures with her artwork, including George W. Bush and Barack Obama – who Trump says “looks wonderful.”
Boardman’s website states that she “had the honor of being commissioned to paint” Trump’s portrait, which was presented in 2019. Republicans raised over $10,000 through a GoFundMe account to commission the oil painting from Boardman.
