Trump International Hotel Waikiki is rebranding, as the owner is buying out a licensing agreement with Donald Trump’s company to join Hilton Worldwide Holding Inc.
The hotel will be renamed Wakea Waikiki Beach and will operate under LXR Hotels & Resorts. The company allows hotels to access Hilton’s loyalty and distribution engines while remaining a separate entity.
The hotel, which has 462 guest rooms and suites, will be renovated in February.
“We are incredibly proud of our performance at Trump Waikiki since the opening of the iconic tower in November 2009,” said the executive vice president of the Trump Organization, Eric Trump, in a statement. “We wish them all the best as they bring this property to its next phase.”
The Hawaii property joins others that have escaped the Trump name. Many in New York, Toronto and Panama City have all rebranded since the launch of Trump’s political career and its ensuing controversies.
Eric was recently in the news when he contradicted his deposition in court testimony during his father’s $250 million business fraud trial in Manhattan.
