Former President Donald Trump denied having cognitive issues during a confusing 87-minute speech at CPAC. Trump claimed he didn’t “ramble” and that his stories were “very informative.” He also questioned President Joe Biden‘s cognitive state.
Biden’s memory has been under scrutiny during his presidency. A majority of voters expressed concern about the president’s ability to lead the country if elected for another term in recent polls. Biden is currently 81 years old.
Recently, Trump has also been questioned about his own cognitive issues. The former president, 77, has been known to ramble during his speeches. Trump mixed up his presidential candidate Nikki Haley with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi repeatedly in one speech.
Trump often claims he took a mental competency test and “aced it.”
During his speech at CPAC, Trump agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin that Biden should be the next president, raising confusion.
“I talked to Putin a lot. I got along with him well, although he did announce the other day that he’d much rather see Biden as President,” Trump said. “And I agree with him.”
Putin previously said in an interview he would prefer to see Biden in office over Trump. Trump’s former National Security Adviser, John Bolton, claimed Putin’s comment was a bait for Trump to respond and that Russia would really “celebrate” if Trump won the election.
Trump continued to veer off script in his speech, bringing up an “all electric mandate,” criticizing California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).
“And by the way, isn’t this better than reading off a fricking teleprompter?” Trump concluded.
