Donald Trump Demands Apology From ‘Hamilton’ Cast For Speech To Mike Pence

Friday night’s Hamiliton performance on Broadway took a political turn as at the end of the show, a cast member addressed Vice President-elect Mike Pence from the stage.

Brandon Victor Dixon, the actor who played Aaron Burr, thanked Pence for attending at the end of the show and delivered a message about the importance of the new administration being there for all American citizens.

“We sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us,” Dixon said.

“We truly thank you for sharing this show, this wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men, women of different colors, creeds and orientation,” Dixon concluded as the audience started applauding loudly.

After the incident, Donald Trump took to Twitter to demand an apology from the Broadway show’s cast. He said that Pence was “harassed” and that this “shouldn’t happen.”

Dixon replied to Trump’s tweet saying that “conversation is not harassment.”

Even the creator of Hamilton, Lin-Manual Miranda weighed in, taking the side of his cast and Dixon.

When going to his seat, Pence was greeted with boos from the audience.

Pence walked out as Dixon was delivering his message, but said that he heard it from the hallway. The Vice President-elect has a long history of supporting anti-LGBT legislation and even electroshock conversion therapy for teens.

“I truly believe we had an effect,” Dixon said in a later interview. “… If you have differences, say something! What better place than on this stage telling this story with these people? I hope he thinks of us every time he has to deal with an issue or talk about a bill or present anything.”
