Trump Campaign Must Pay Omarosa’s $1.3 Million Legal Fees After Losing Lawsuit

The presidential campaign of Donald Trump is responsible for Omarosa Manigault Newman’s legal fees, which total over $1.3 million. This ruling came after the lawsuit filed by the campaign against her for breach of a nondisclosure agreement through writing a book about her time in the White House ruled in Newman’s favor.

According to a statement, by her attorney John M. Phillips, this huge payment is “the largest known attorney fee award against a Political Campaign or President we can find.” Last September, Newman was determined to be not in violation of a nondisclosure agreement she signed because a New York judge found the contract’s terms “highly problematic,” upon review, and thus too vague to enforce.

Newman, who first came into the Trump sphere as a contestant on the debut season of The Apprentice, also worked as director for African American outreach for his presidential campaign and was granted the roles of assistant to the President and director of communications for the Office of Public Liason in January 2017. She was then fired from the Trump Administration in December of that same year.

She published her book, Unhinged: An Insider’s Account Of The Trump White House, in August 2018. In the book, she called Trump a “racist, a bigot and a misogynist,” and also said she found it “disturbing” how the former President “thought of me and African-Americans as a whole.”

She also said she was offered a $15,000 a month position working for Trump’s re-election campaign after leaving The White House if she signed a nondisclosure agreement that would make her “forbidden from ever talking about the entire Trump family or the entire Pence family, to anyone in the universe, for all eternity.”

Citing her prior history with Trump dating back to her first appearance on The Apprentice in 2004, Newman also stated her concern regarding his mental state. “His mental decline could not be denied,” she wrote. “Many didn’t notice it as keenly as I did because I knew him way back when. They thought Trump was being Trump, off the cuff.”

Newman celebrated her team’s latest victory in a tweet yesterday where she cracked, “First-year law student vs. #45’s entire legal team (David vs. Goliath).”
