Trump ‘Appoints’ Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone & Jon Voight As ‘Special Ambassadors’ For ‘Very Troubled’ Hollywood

Days before his inauguration on Jan. 20, Donald Trump announced a new team of controversial men to serve as “Special Ambassadors” to Hollywood through his next administration.

In a statement posted to TruthSocial on Thursday, Trump said, “It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone as Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California.”

He went on, “They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK – BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!”

He added, “These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!”

Hollywood revenue has plummeted in the last five years as the industry struggles to recover from the writers’ and actors’ strikes in addition to any lasting complications caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is unclear what the responsibilities of being a “Special Ambassador” for Hollywood entail, as the position’s degree of power is unclear.

A celebrated actor and film producer, Mel Gibson’s career has long been littered with allegations of racism, misogyny, domestic violence, homophobia and anti-semitism.

In a statement shared with Variety, Gibson said, “I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised…Nevertheless, I heed the call. My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can.”

He joked, “Any chance the position comes with an Ambassador’s residence?” A nod to the recent wildfires tearing through Los Angeles, to which he lost his home.

There have been many reports of Sylvester Stallone fostering a toxic workplace environment.

Angelina Jolie’s estranged father, Jon Voight, has controversially made comments on problems in the Middle East and has defended Trump against assault allegations.

Stallone did not show his support for Trump before the 2024 election but rather waited to introduce Trump as “the second George Washington” at a gala following his victory.
