True Detective’s sophomore season is already stirring up headlines, as fans are eager to learn who will take over starring duties from Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

‘True Detective’ Rumors

It was previously reported that both Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights, Lone Survivor) and Colin Farrell were in talks to come on board for True Detective Season 2. Now, it’s being reported that Mad Men‘s Elisabeth Moss might take on the rumored female lead role and that Vince Vaughn might be playing one of the season’s main antagonists.

True Detective showrunner Nic Pizzolatto has been keeping relatively tight-lipped about the next season of the critically-acclaimed show. Set in California, the season will be about “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system,” according to Pizzolatto.

A breakdown of the season, obtained by The Wrap, offers a more comprehensive look at what’s to be expected in 2015. According to the website, the upcoming season will start with the death of a corrupt California city manager named Ben Caspar. Farrell, Kitsch and Moss – if the rumors are true – will all play cops investigating the matter.

Vaughn, best known for his turns in comedic movies, is apparently in talks to play thug-turned-businessman Frank Semyon. With the hope of making some extra money, he teams up with a California mayor to have a high-speed railway system built linking Northern California to Southern California.

HBO has not commented on the speculation surrounding True Detective’s plot and casting.
