‘True Detective’ News: ‘Fast & Furious’ Director Justin Lin In Talks To Direct

Justin Lin, best known for helming the Fast and Furious movies, is reportedly in talks to direct the second season of HBO’s True Detective.

Justin Lin To Direct ‘True Detective’?

HBO has been eyeing Lin to direct, an minimum, the first two episodes of True Detective’s next season, according to Deadline. When approached to weigh in on Lin’s potential involvement, HBO declined to comment.

All eight episodes of True Detective’s debut season were directed by Cary Fukunaga (Sin Nombre, Jane Eyre). Fukunaga was celebrated for his talents in the critically lauded TV series at the 66th Annual Emmy Awards, where he received the Outstanding Director for a Drama Series award, beating out Tim Van Patten (Boardwalk Empire), Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad), David Evans (Downton Abbey), Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones) and Carl Franklin (House of Cards).

In addition to a number of Fast and Furious movies, Lin has been behind the camera for Annapolis and a few episodes of the TV series Community. He also has TV series Scorpio in postproduction and two films that have been announced – the untitled Shaolin Temple remake and the untitled Jason Bourne sequel.

Whether or not Lin will direct True Detective is far from the only mystery about the show’s second season, which will see a complete overhaul from the first, leaving only show creator Nic Pizzolatto. There have been a number of big names rumored to be replacing season one stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, including Colin Ferrell, Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn. Producers are also reportedly looking for a female lead.

True Detective is moving the action from Louisiana to California for its second season, which will follow an investigation into the murder of a corrupt city manager.
