True Blood returned on Tuesday with an introduction to the real Warlow, who is on his way into the dimension, as Sookie’s contract bursts into flames on her nightstand. Meanwhile, Jason (Ryan Kwanten) learns that the man he thought was Warlow was actually his fairy grandfather who’s been protecting him for years. The gray-haired Grandpa/protector informs Jason he’s failed his test by revealing the family’s history to a man he had thought was a stranger. Not deterred in his goal, Jason insists he’s ready to find Warlow.
At Fangtasia, Tara (Rutina Wesley) is dying from the silver bullet the police had shot her with that’s emitting UV rays. Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) and Nora (Lucy Griffiths) arrive in the nick of time to save her life, while it dawns on them that the humans now have artillery to wage a successful war against them. Nora is also concerned about the new Bill (Stephen Moyer), and how they’re going to take him out as well. Eric instructs her to do some more research, so that they know exactly what they’re dealing with regarding Bill. Bill, at the moment, is feeling the pains – whipping, burning, dragging behind a vehicle – felt by other vampires. After a crying Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) tries to soothe him, he becomes catatonic. Not knowing what to do, Jessica orders Bill a Human Edible – where fees are commensurate to the location of the bite. Bill rejects the girl, but then telekinetically drinks her blood – not laying a finger or tooth on her as her blood leaves her mouth to enter his. Jessica watches and collapses.
On her way to work at Merlotte’s, Sookie (Anna Paquin) meets a fellow half-fairy who’d been attacked by a vampire. She brings him back home to her couch to nurse him back to health, where he tells her she reminds him of an old flame. They chat about the idea of getting rid of their fairy lights and the fairy safe place. At Merlotte’s, Arlene (Carrie Preston) , who is waiting for Sookie to arrive, sits a group of out-of-towners. One of them, Nicole Wright of the Vampire Unity Society, approaches Sam (Sam Trammell) and tells him she knows that he and Luna are shifters and that Luna and her daughter are on the police’s radar. Nicole urges Sam to come out as a supernatural creature for the good of society.
When Jason and his fairy grandfather arrive at Sookie’s house to go through the portal in her bathroom in search of Warlow, Sookie is on her way to drop Ben off at the fairy club before going to work. When Jason’s grandpa returns from the other direction, he’s soaking wet. Later on, when Sookie arrives home, she’s introduced to her grandfather Niall. He reveals that Warlow is now in their dimension and has been obsessed with the Strackhouse family for generations. Why? They’re the original Fae and have the ability to channel their light into a single ball of energy by accessing a happy memory that can kill any vampire in comes into contact with. Since she’s only half fae, Sookie can only use this power once.
Eric, meanwhile, has decided to go undercover as a department of wildlife and fisherman representative to meet with the Governor. He tries to make the case that vampires who killed humans were only trying to survive. And when that gets him nowhere, he attempts to glamour the governor into reversing his recent policy of closing vampire-owned businesses and also prosecuting human-on-vampire crime as they do vampire-on-human crime. Turns out, in addition to developing the UV bullets, humans also developed glamour-preventing contact lenses. Eric is laughed out of the office and ordered to be transferred to “camp.” He flies off before they can get him into a van. Later that day, he manages to glamour the Governor’s daughter as she’s getting ready for bed and ends up being invited into her room.
Sam, after Luna’s (Janina Gavankar) death last week, assumed guardianship of Emma (Chloe Noelle) and was bringing her home food when Alcide (Joe Manganiello) , Martha (Dale Dickey) and Danielle (Jamie Gray Hyder) arrived to try to take Emma away from him. Sam doesn’t think Emma would be better off with them, Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) backs him and Emma asserts that she’d rather stay with Sam. A fight ensues that’s captured on camera by The Vampire Unity Society.
Back with Bill and Jessica, Jessica is trying to talk to Bill while he remains seemingly catatonic. She tries to get him to understand her own pain, and admits she’s not sure if he’s Lilith or a god in his own right. She prays to him for the sake of her friends. Bill’s mind is one with Lilith’s and he’s currently seeing into the future – vampires no longer have any rights and are subject to public flaying, worse yet, Jessica Eric, Tara and Pam are burned in “camp.” Jessica realizes his newfound power, and the fate that awaits them all.
True Blood returns next Sunday on HBO at 9/8c.
