Tribeca Film Festival Will Return With In-Person Festivities In June

After a year of almost no in-person events due to the coronavirus pandemic, the first major North American film festival will return with in-person festivities to New York City this summer.

Celebrating their 20th anniversary, the Tribeca Film Festival will return with live, outdoor entertainment from June 9-20, 2021. The festival will span all five boroughs — Manhattan (Brookfield Place New York, Pier 57 Rooftop, The Battery, Hudson Yards), Brooklyn (The MetroTech Commons), Staten Island (Empire Outlets), Queens and The Bronx.

In a statewide attempt to bring back the arts safely to New York, Tribeca’s return to the city parallels the festival’s original mission when it was founded after 9/11. This year’s festival for their 20th anniversary will include diverse programming, immersive exhibitions, games, concerts and a commemoration of the Juneteenth holiday.

“The Tribeca Film Festival was born our of a mission to being people together in the aftermath of 9/11,” actor and co-founder Robert De Niro said. “We’re still doing it. And as New York emerges from the shadow of COVID-19, it seems just right to bring people together again in-person for our 20th anniversary festival.”

“Tribeca is a community of the most resilient and talented storytellers on the planet. In 20 years, our community of creators and partners have become family. This summer we are excited to reunite as Tribeca becomes a centerpiece of live entertainment in neighborhoods across New York City,” added co-founder Jane Rosenthal.

The festival is actively working with the New York State Department of Health to ensure that all public gatherings will be in full compliance with COVID-19 safety guidelines.

Signature screenings and other programming will be announced at a later date.
