Tribeca Film Festival 2017 Preview: From ‘The Godfather’ To Virtual Reality

The Tribeca Film Festival begins on April 20. Here are some events and discussions to look forward to.

TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL PREVIEW

The festival will run for ten days, from Thursday, April 20 through Sunday, April 30. The festivities, however, will feature a season opener on April 19. Aretha Franklin will be on hand, along with Earth Wind & Fire, Barry ManilowCarly SimonDionne Warwick, and Jennifer Hudson to celebrate the great Clive Davis. The singers will perform in honor of who Franklin called, “the greatest record man of all time.”

On April 29, there will be screenings of The Godfather and The Godfather Part II at Radio City Music Hall. This will also feature a once-in-a-lifetime Q&A session with Francis Ford CoppolaAl PacinoDiane KeatonRobert DuvallJames Caan, and Robert De Niro.

At the same time but downtown, Barbara Streisand will have an unusual chat with Robert Rodriguez in a “Tribeca Talks.” Rodriguez directed Sin City and From Dusk Til Dawn, and was hand-picked for this conversation with Streisand. Various other “Tribeca Talks” will stake place over the course of the festival, and will feature Jon Favreau and Scarlett JohanssonAlejandro González Iñárritu and Marina AbramovićKobe BryantMichael Strahan, and Glen KeaneDustin Hoffman and Noah Baumbach, and Bruce Springsteen and Tom Hanks.

Sean “Diddy” Combs will debut his documentary about Bad Boy Records at the Beacon Theater. The screening will also feature a live concert from Combs and Mase, Lil’ Kim, and Faith Evans. That will occur on April 23.

Then on April 28, Quentin Tarantino will host an anniversary screening of Reservoir Dogs for the film’s 25th anniversary. The director will provide his own 35mm print of the film. Following the screening will be a Q&A with Tarantino, producer Lawrence Bender, and some of the cast, including Steve BuscemiTim RothMichael Madsen, and Harvey Keitel.

In addition, the festival will include a Virtual Arcade that will feature 30 different innovative videos on display to experience in virtual reality.
