Police arrested a man connected with a bomb threat that caused The Roots show at South by Southwest in Austin to be canceled.
Trevor Weldon Ingram allegedly emailed Live Nation Music claiming there was a bomb planted at the venue. No bomb was found but sponsors decided to cancel the event to ensure the safety of the audience. However, the announcement was made after a crowd had already gathered.
According to a police statement they were “able to identify and locate the suspect believed to be tied to the threat and at 11:08 p.m.. a warrant was signed” for Ingram’s arrest. At 11:15 p.m. he was arrested on a third-degree felony charge for making a terrorist threat. The statement added that “there are no indications of any broader security concerns for any activities relating to the incident.”
Artists scheduled to perform with The Roots were Ludacris, Jessie Reyez, Rapsody, Dermot Kennedy and Tank and the Bangas.
