Trevor Noah was forced to take the night off from hosting The Daily Show Wednesday, as he was recovering from an emergency appendectomy.
Comedy Central announced in a statement Wednesday afternoon that due to an emergency appendectomy, Noah would not be able to get behind the desk to host the show. In place of a new program, viewers would have to be satisfied with a repeat while Noah started his recuperation. According to Comedy Central, Noah will be back in action Thursday.
“Trevor Noah underwent an emergency appendectomy early this morning. We’re happy to report the procedure went well and he is currently recuperating from the surgery,” the network said in the statement. “As a result, The Daily Show will air an encore tonight. We expect he and the show will be back with an original episode tomorrow.”
After learning about Noah’s health scare, Jimmy Fallon quipped on Twitter that his pal and fellow late night show host could tell the hospital workers he said hello. As has been well-documented, Fallon’s taken a number of trips to the emergency room after freak accidents recently.
Noah took over The Daily Show in September following Jon Stewart‘s departure in August. The comedian, who had served as a correspondent during Stewart’s tenure on The Daily Show, was tapped for the job back in March. When the news was announced, Noah shared some encouraging words from Stewart.
“He told me, ‘I was where you were when I took over the show,’” Noah told The New York Times. “‘Nobody knew me. I was just starting out, finding my voice, and that’s when I was handed this seat.’ Now, it’s my turn to steer this ship.”
