Trevor Noah Sues Manhattan Hospital Over Alleged Botched Surgery

The Daily Show host Trevor Noah has sued Dr. Riley J Williams III and the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan for medical malpractice over a botched surgery Noah underwent in November 2020.

Noah, 37, was a patient of the hospital between August and December 2020. In the suit, Noah wrote that the injuries he suffered after the surgery were “permanent, severe and grievous.” He even claimed that he was “rendered sick, sore, lame, and disabled,” from the pain.

The suit shows that Noah has accused the hospital of being “negligent and careless,” alleging that the defendants did not prescribe certain medications, and even failed “to use proper tests and examinations in order to diagnose the conditions.”

Noah was allegedly confined to his bed for a “long period of time,” from the surgery, and thanks to that, he has “suffered loss of enjoyment was life; was prevented from engaging in his usual occupation for a long period of time; and since some of his injuries are of a permanent nature, he will continue to suffer similar damages in the future.”

A representative for the Hospital for Special Surgery acknowledged the complaint in a statement, but called the accusations in the suit “meritless.” They claimed to have shared a “detailed rebuttal” with Noah’s attorney Justin Blitz, but don’t discuss the surgery specifically due to HIPAA.

The representative concluded the statement by saying their’ commitment to excellence “has made HSS the world’s leading academic medical center specialized in musculoskeletal health, consistently ranked #1 in orthopedics globally and nationally.”
