After much excitement and anticipation from the public, hip-hop artist Travis Scott released his Air Jordan 1’s “Cactus Jack” on May 11. Within hours of its release, the sneakers sold out. Originally been priced at $175, re-sellers are now asking for six times that amount, averaging at more than $1000.
Many customers were not happy with the original form of sale. Released through the Nike SNKRS app, many people had issues trying to purchase the Air Jordan 1’s, the main one being an error message that occurred at the time of checkout that read, “There was a problem processing your payment. Check your payment information and try again.” These issues interrupted the purchasing process for many, leaving them with a crashed app and no sneakers.
This inconvenience spiked a Twitter explosion of memes and angry tweets about the difficulties most people had trying to purchase the sneaker, ranging from Twitter users saying, “Having your Saturday ruined by the Nike SNKRS app is a tradition unlike any other,” and “Had Travis Scott 1s in my cart & Nike telling me that the password I use is incorrect…. I USE F—— FACE ID!!!”
