Travis Scott appeared on stage in a surprise appearance with Future at the Rolling Loud Miami Festival this weekend.
It had been reported earlier that Scott might be replacing Kanye West as a headliner at this year’s festival. After it was announced that West had withdrawn from the event, many believed that the Sicko Mode rapper would be taking the spot. But eventually festival co-founder Tariq Cherif announced that the Donda 2 rapper would be replaced with Kid Cudi.
Last year, 10 people died and hundreds more were injured during Scott’s set at the is Astroworld Festival. After a fan asked why Scott was not added to the bill instead, Cherif had responded in a since-deleted comment that the “venue won’t allow Travis because of Astroworld deaths.”
This had fans thinking that there might he a blacklisting of the rapper.
Cherif then wrote in a statement that such theories were false.
“We reached out to Travis to headline Rolling Loud, but it couldn’t work in such a short time,” Cherif said in a statement. “This had nothing to do with any restriction from the hosting venue Hard Rock Stadium. All artists are in consideration for the event. But, in this case, each situation had logistical challenges and Travis wasn’t an option for this upcoming week.”
The legal ramification over the tragedy of Astroworld are still in process. The rapper has recently tried to have a wrongful death lawsuit field by a female attendee who had a miscarriage while at Astroworld dismissed.
“This is another blatant, cynical attempt to attack Travis,” Scott’s spokesperson said in a statement. “As even the complaint makes clear, this incident was related to a false report of a shooting mid-show, completely unrelated to Travis’s performance… This cheap opportunism is based on a blatant lie that’s easy to detect.”
