Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is set to make his big-screen debut in the upcoming action-comedy film Loose Cannons. Kelce will star in the movie, which is being produced by John Wick director Chad Stahelski.
The film’s plot centers around two cops who are forced to become partners after their precincts merge due to budget cuts. The unlikely duo ends up taking on less high-profile cases that other officers don’t want to handle. While Kelce’s co-stars have not yet been announced, the project is expected to begin production sometime next year, as the NFL player’s schedule is currently filled with his professional football duties.
This marks Kelce’s first major acting role, though he has made some previous appearances in the entertainment industry. In 2020, he had a guest spot on the Showtime comedy series Moonbase 8, and just this past March, he hosted an episode of the iconic sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live.
The move to Hollywood comes as Kelce has signed with the prominent entertainment agency CAA, suggesting he is looking to expand his portfolio beyond the football field. In addition to his starring role in Loose Cannons, the 33-year-old is also set to host the reboot of the popular game show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader on Amazon Prime.
With his Super Bowl championship pedigree and growing popularity, Kelce‘s foray into acting is sure to generate plenty of buzz among football fans and movie-goers alike.
In 2017, Stahelski talked to uInterview exclusively about how he tookJohn Wick’s character to the next level. “If we want to see the world get bigger and more involved we also need to get the character a little bit more — or just expand on what the character can do, and in this case that’s physical skills so Keanu [Reeve] went through twice the training that he did on the original film and we tried to get him a few more skill sets and improve on what he already did,” he told uInterview.
