Tower Infinity, The World's First Invisible Tower, To Be Built In South Korea

The South Korean government has granted construction permits green lighting Tower Infinity, the first invisible tower.

The project, headed by GDS Architects, uses LED screens that cover the building to project images taken from various cameras surrounding the building, essentially projecting what is on the opposite side of the building onto each facet, creating the illusion of invisibility.

Tower Infinity plans on using 18 cameras placed on six sides of the building at three separate heights that will record images that will then be projected onto rows of LED screens in real time. Each third of the building (height-wise) will be made up of 500 rows of LED screens.

“Instead of symbolizing prominence as another of the world’s tallest and best towers, our solution aims to provide the world’s first invisible tower, showcasing innovative Korean technology while encouraging a more global narrative in the process,” CDS design principal Charles Wee said in a statement.

When completed, Tower Infinity will be the sixth tallest tower in the World at 1,476 feet (450 meters) and will contain the third highest observation deck, according to CNN.

Tower Infinity will be built around Seoul near the Incheon International Airport, though no official start date or expected completion date has been announced. GDS has confirmed that the tower will consist of a movie theater, various restaurants and be used for leisure activities.

Tower Infinity’s invisibility will work at varying degrees, and the LED screens will be able to be turned off at any time. Reports indicate that the building might also be used for projecting special events or images.
