A severe storm that struck Toronto led to widespread flooding, including at the opulent mansion of Canadian rapper Drake.
The Grammy-winning artist, known for hits like “Hotline Bling” and “God’s Plan,” shared footage on social media depicting ankle-deep water in what appeared to be his home’s dressing room. The video, posted to his Instagram Stories, showed a person believed to be Drake attempting to hold back floodwaters at a doorway.
The 37-year-old musician’s property, dubbed “The Embassy,” is a 50,000-square-foot residence in one of Toronto’s most exclusive neighborhoods. Drake purchased the land in 2015 for $6.7 million and reportedly invested $100 million in the estate’s construction.
Toronto officials reported that some areas of the city received more than 100 millimeters (about 4 inches) of rain during the downpour. The storm caused widespread power outages, with Toronto Hydro reporting that approximately 167,000 customers lost electricity at the peak of the storm. By Wednesday, that number had decreased to about 3,200.
The city’s 311 service line received over 700 calls reporting basement flooding. Municipal authorities advised residents to exercise caution when dealing with flood damage, recommending professional assistance for cleanup efforts.
The incident follows reports from two months ago of attempted break-ins at Drake’s property, highlighting the challenges of maintaining security at high-profile residences.
Drake, whose legal name is Aubrey Graham, has occasionally offered glimpses of his lavish home on social media. In a 2020 interview with Architectural Digest, he expressed his desire for the mansion to have a “monumental scale and feel,” describing it as a legacy he hopes will endure for a century.
