Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s Inebriated Rant Caught On Tape
Rob Ford, the Toronto Mayor who recently admitted to using crack cocaine, is back in the headlines after a video went public of the politician on what appears to be a drunken rant.
In the grainy video, Ford appears stumbling around a sparse dining room, punching his hand for emphasis as he delivers an angry diatribe. "I'm going to kill that f–king guy,” Ford says in the footage obtained by the Toronto Star. I'm telling you it's first-degree murder. … He dies or I die, brother.”
“When he's down, I'll rip his f—king throat out,” continues Ford, gesturing with his hands. "I'll poke his eyes out. … I'll make sure that mother f–ker is dead. I need f–king ten minutes to make sure he’s dead.”
It’s unknown who Ford was referencing in his rant, though the person in question may have spoken ill of him and his brothers, or those he hangs around with. “My brothers are, don’t tell me we’re liars, thieves, birds? It hurts,” Ford shouts in the video. “That little p—-k’s a racist f–k.”
As Ford blusters through his angry tirade, a man off camera and not holding the recording device seems to goad Ford on. He offers to call “him” up and dubs Ford 'Mike Tyson.' The voice off-camera, also suggests that Ford knocks down his "killing" time to five minutes. The identities of the video recorder and that of the other man have not been revealed.
Ford, just days after finally admitting to smoking crack months after the allegations first emerged, had to release a statement to the press to apologize for his latest transgression to go public. "All I can do is reassure the people that I don't know what to say," Ford told reporters. "It's extremely embarrassing. The whole world is going to see it. I don't have a problem with that. Obviously I was extremely, extremely inebriated.” Ford also suggested drunkenness played a part in his recreational drug use.
The scandals have not worked to encourage Ford's resignation from his post as Toronto’s mayor. His sister and mother, both of whom agree his actions are unbecoming on a mayor, believe that despite his after-hours activites, he’s fit to remain in office.
