Rob Ford’s admission to using crack cocaine has led the Toronto City Council to strip the city’s mayor of some of his governing powers.

Ford shocked his city and Canada as a whole when he made no attempt to step down from office after publicly acknowledging that he’s been high on crack in a “drunken stupor.” In an effort to do what they can to limit the disgraced mayor’s power, the council voted to remove Ford’s ability to govern in an emergency. They also were able to fire his senior staff, reported CNN. Both moves are unprecedented.

"Obviously, I can't support this," Ford told council members, but adding later, "I perfectly understand where they're coming from."

Ford landed in even more hot water earlier on Thursday when reporters asked him outside city hall about allegations that appeared in court documents about him having an affair with a staffer. “It says I wanted to eat her [expletive] and I have never said that in my life to her. I would never do that,” he said. “I’m happily married and I’ve got more than enough to eat at home.”

Ford later apologized for his remarks, having traded in his Argonauts jersey for a suit and tie and accompanied by his wife. “When you attack my integrity as a father and as a husband, I see red,” Ford explained.

The Toronto mayor, who has pledged to get help for his drinking problem, has been accused by staffers of drinking in his office and while driving his car. Ford is also accused of taking pain pills recreationally and smoking weed.

Despite the fact that even Doug Ford, who has been a steadfast champion of his mayor brother, has suggested he take a leave of absence, Mayor Ford plans to stay put.
