Fans of the iconic ’90s TV show Beverly Hills, 90210 fondly remember the on-screen romance between Donna Martin and David Silver. But the actors behind these characters, Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green, had a falling out that lasted nearly two decades after the series ended in 2000.
In an episode of the Old-Ish podcast, co-hosted by Green with his fiancée Sharna Burgess and Spelling’s brother, Randy Spelling, the former co-stars opened up about their 18-year estrangement. The episode, which marks the first of a two-part special, delves into how the two navigated the end of their professional and personal relationship.
Spelling, 51, revealed that their final conversation before the long hiatus left her in tears. She recounted her deep sadness at the thought of losing touch with someone she considered a close friend. “It felt like going through a divorce,” she said, reflecting on the end of 90210 and the bond she shared with Green.
Despite Green’s efforts to maintain their friendship, Spelling distanced herself. She recalled how Green reassured her at the time, promising they would always stay close, even suggesting future vacations together. But that promise marked the last time they spoke for nearly 18 years.
The actors admitted that their romantic relationships at the time also contributed to their estrangement. Spelling was dating Vincent Young, another 90210 co-star, while Green was with Vanessa Marcil, with whom he shares a son, Kassius. Green expressed frustration at his failed attempts to stay connected with Spelling, feeling she no longer wanted to be friends. Spelling acknowledged that Green was not a fan of her relationship with Young, which led her to avoid him further.
They ran into each other at a 90210 DVD release party, but the distance remained. Green recalled Spelling, who was then married to Dean McDermott, did not greet him, solidifying his belief that their friendship was over. Spelling validated Green’s perspective, admitting that her discomfort with Green’s relationship with Marcil also contributed to their rift.
Despite the years of silence, the two have rekindled their friendship recently, with Green likening Spelling to a sister. “We won,” Green said, celebrating their renewed connection. “It’s a victory lap that we get to take.”
Spelling has made no secret of her struggles in recent years, which included living in an RV park with her four kids last year.
