Tori Spelling has revealed new details about her weight loss journey.
In an April episode of her podcast MisSpelling, the Beverly Hills 90210 alum disclosed that she had used the Type 2 diabetes drug Mounjaro to lose the weight she gained with the pregnancy of her fifth child.
She credits the drug for helping her lose 40 pounds. “I did Mounjaro, and everyone admits it now. It’s a different time, so I don’t feel shamed saying that.”
Spelling explained, “I’m no longer on it, but I did lose weight, and I haven’t been on it since the end of January. I’m happy with my weight. I had hit my ideal weight, and I felt like I didn’t want to get any thinner.”
Spelling has been exceedingly open about the body image issues she has faced as a woman in Hollywood, particularly as she has adapted past her initial role on screen as a teenager and as she has grown into her role as a mother multiple times over.
Spelling’s five children are Liam, 17, Stella, 16, Hattie, 13, Finn, 12, and Beau, 7, all of whom she shared with her ex-husband Dean McDermott. Spelling has revealed in the past that it was McDermott’s stellar performance that was responsible for her many pregnancies, despite the couple’s rocky relationship.
Spelling, who was 44 when she gave birth to Beau, specified that she had found it much easier to lose the baby weight from her first four pregnancies, but the last one left a different effect on her body. “At my heaviest, I was probably 120 pounds my entire life, and after Beau, I was 160,” She explained. “I couldn’t lose the weight, and the doctor was like, ‘Well, it’s an age thing.’”
Spelling said that after she tried a variety of different weight-loss approaches, including a focus on a protein-heavy diet and exercise, prescription medication seemed like the best choice for her to return to her preferred public appearance.
In 2009, Spelling explained the optics she feared to People: “I knew as soon as I left the house a week, even two weeks after giving birth, (to daughter Stella), people are going to take pictures and scrutinize…Whereas mothers everywhere don’t even think about losing the weight for a year. It was hard to find that balance of what’s acceptable.”
Spelling was hit with numerous body-shaming comments for her skinny appearance on Dancing With The Stars this fall.
