Court documents have revealed that former celebrity couple Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott are still embroiled in a significant financial dispute with City National Bank. According to the court filings, the estranged spouses owe over $200,000 in outstanding debt from a previous bank loan.
The legal saga began in 2012 when Spelling, 51, and McDermott, 57, secured a $400,000 loan from City National Bank and vowed to repay the amount with interest. However, as of 2016, the couple still owed a balance of $188,803.38. The bank has continued its efforts to collect the debt, filing court paperwork in 2019 and now issuing a second writ of execution against the former couple.
Joshua Friedman, an attorney representing City National Bank, has confirmed that the bank is still actively pursuing the judgment collection, which now stands at $219,796.66 for Spelling and $202,066.10 for McDermott. Friedman emphasized that “when a judgment has been paid or settled in full, a satisfaction of judgment is required in court and none has been filed in this case.”
The financial troubles for Spelling and McDermott extend beyond their dispute with City National Bank. In 2020, money from Spelling’s bank account was seized after she allegedly refused to pay back $88,731.25 owed to American Express. The actress has since settled this debt, though the recent court filings suggest their financial woes continue to plague the former couple.
Spelling, known for her role in the iconic Beverly Hills, 90210 series, has been open about her recent budget struggles. In an episode of her misSPELLING podcast, she revealed that she could not afford a storage unit where she has been keeping various personal and family belongings, such as her children’s memories and memorabilia from her 18-year marriage to McDermott.
The former couple, who announced their separation in June 2023, has yet to publicly address the latest legal motion from City National Bank. However, Spelling’s candid comments on her financial difficulties underscore their ongoing challenges in managing their personal and economic affairs.
After living in an RV park this summer, Spelling revealed that her daughter was being bullied at school. Many fans have questioned why Spelling’s mom, Candi Spelling, who inherited $400 million from her late husband, has not bailed her out.
