Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott Announce Separation After 18 Years of Marriage

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott are separating after 18 years of marriage.

McDermott, 56, made the announcement in a since-deleted Instagram post on June 17.

He wrote, “It’s with great sadness and a very very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, that @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways, and start a new journey of our own.”

He also added a picture of himself and Spelling as well as a photo of the couple with their kids in the post. He continued, saying that they will “continue to work together as loving parents” for their children.

The now-former couple married in 2006. They share five children, ages 6 to 16.

The two actors have been through several periods of uncertainty in their relationship, including McDermott’s infidelity. He publicly confessed to cheating in 2014. The pair then released the reality series, True Tori, which followed them during the tumultuous time in their marriage. In one episode, McDermott said, “I feel shame. I’ve never felt shame before,” when sharing his feelings about his wrongdoing.

In 2016, the 90210 actress told People that they had to “completely rebuild” their relationship after McDermott’s admission. She stated they went to couples therapy and ultimately decided to “tough it out and work through it.” Spelling recalled that the healing process was rewarding as it “opened up those lines of communication.”

While on an August 2020 episode of the Women on Top podcast, Spelling told hosts Roxy Manning and Tammin Sursok that she was happy she didn’t conceal her marriage troubles in the docu-series. But she also mentioned that one of her daughters had seen a clip of the show online and “it really upset her.” On the podcast, Spelling described her doubts while navigating her relationship with McDermott, saying that her biggest fear was that he would cheat on her. As a result, she put herself at fault for his infidelity, believing that she was “not good enough.”
