Top 7 Things To Do In St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

St. Thomas, the crown jewel of the Virgin Islands, was badly hit by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. The island has largely recovered from the beating and today few scars remain. St. Thomas is welcoming back tourists aplenty these days. Direct flights from the mainland make this an easy – and affordable – destination for travelers from the East Coast or Midwest. Consistently warm temperatures (low 80s in January!) with low precipitation make it a sure bet weather wise. uTravel recently toured the island and found many delightful diversions. Here are uTravels’ Top 7 Things To Do In St. Thomas:

1.  Lindquist Beach: A spectacular, if small, beach located on the island’s northeast end, Lindquist Beach is one of the St. Thomas’s most special locales. The low number of visitors means that you  can stake out your own private beach. Swim in the clear, warm Caribbean waters to soothe your soul without the risk of being overrun by cruise ship patrons.

2. Sunset Cruising: The picturesque island can’t be fully appreciated until you view it from the water. Splurge on a tour on a 53-foot catamaran that ferries you around Charlotte Amalie’s lovely harbor. The friendly crew encourage the good vibes with a tasty rum punch and lively banter. Nightly cruises depart from the Bolongo Bay Beach Resort ($65 adults, $45 children 12 and under).

3. Magens Bay: This broad white beach is the most popular in St. Thomas for a reason – it’s fabulous. Take a dip in the warm waters surrounded by the gorgeous natural background. A local beach bar offers suds and sweet sounds to sunbathers seeking a break from the rays.

4. Skyride To Paradise Point: This aerial cable car whisks you 700 feet to the top of Paradise Point where you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of Charlotte Amalie harbor (pictured above). Stop for a bite and drink at the mountain-top restaurant and take in the unbeatable view. (The island’s only steak house is set to open soon.) The Paradise Point Skyride gives you a unique bird’s eye view of all St. Thomas has to offer ($21 for adults, $10.50 children under 12).

5. Sweet Snorkeling: The Virgin Islands are known for their great snorkeling — and St. Thomas doesn’t disappoint. Most of the major beaches have some attractive snorkeling areas. Serious-minded snorkelers may want to organize a tour such as the half-day tour to Turtle Cove – where you guessed it – you can swim with the turtles to your heart’s content ($75 adults, $55 kids under 12).

6. Dining from Casual To Elegant: St. Thomas boasts a broad array of bars and restaurants for the discerning travel, from causal pizza and burger joints to fine dining in the hopping Red Hook area. And nothing could be finer than the food at XO Bistro. XO’s menu offers many fish course with a distinctive island twist. Call ahead for dining reservations, or just drop and sit at the friendly bar and knock back a few of their signature cocktails.

7. Drink Like A Locale: After your dinner, make sure to grab the tasty local drink, the Bushwacker, at the Drunken Clam. This chill joint on Charlotte Amalie’s harbor boasts great cheap drinks and a festive local band that will have you jumping to your feet and swaying your hips.
