The 2016 Tony Awards were held Sunday night in New York City, and – to no one’s surprise – saw Hamilton become the night’s big winner.
Hamilton, created by and starring Lin-Manuel Miranda, won for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical (Leslie Odom, Jr.), Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical (Daveed Diggs), Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical (Renée Elise Goldberry) Best Costume Design of a Musical, Best Lighting Design of a Musical and more.
Best Revival of a Musical went to The Color Purple, which also took home the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical, which went to Cynthia Erivo.
The Humans won for Best Play, beating out Eclipsed, The Father and King Charles III. Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play went to Frank Langella for The Father, while Jessica Lange received the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for Long Day’s Journey into Night. The Humans stars Reed Birney and Jayne Houdyshell won for their featured roles in the play.
