Tonkey, The Shar Pei Puppy, Gains Over 100,000 Followers On Instagram

Tonkey, the puppy that looks like a teddy bear, has become a hit on social media with over 100,000 Instagram followers (handle: @bearcoat_tonkey).

Tonkey the bear-coat Shar Pei is only four months old, but is loved all over the web for her adorable teddy bear-like features. News reports on Wednesday highlighted the puppy’s Instagram splash, since the cuddly animal received over 100,000 followers after just eight weeks.

Tonkey lives in Alberta, Canada, with owners Christine Park, 26, and her boyfriend David Ngu, 30, who adopted the puppy in May.

The couple set up an Instagram account to share her with the world and some individual photos of the puppy attract more than 15,000 likes.

“She’s a funny character. Her tail wags at lightning speed – even when she’s in trouble; those eyes could melt the coldest of hearts,” Park told Daily Mail UK.

“She cuddles every day, loves children, and is friendly and curious towards strangers,” the owner added.

Tonkey’s Instagram include cute pictures of the puppy playing, sleeping, taking baths and just looking “huggable.”

“We started Tonkey’s Instagram account because we felt she was exceptionally cute. The bear-coat Shar Pei was new to us and we wanted the world to know her,” Park explained. “Dave and I love that Tonkey’s followers get as excited as we do.”

The couple also own a two-year old border collie named Maxi, who they rescued as a stray. Maxi appears to be the perfect buddy for Tonkey.

“Tonkey learns from Maxi. She teaches her to obey commands, learn tricks and learn manners. Maxi was our first dog, and is the glue in our little family,” Parker said. “Our bond as a family grows every day and Tonkey is a welcome addition.”
