Tom Selleck ‘Frustrated’ With CBS After Cancellation Of ‘Blue Bloods,’ Thinks The Series Was ‘Taken For Granted’

Tom Selleck shared his frustration after finding out CBS canceled Blue Bloods after 14 seasons.

Selleck, who plays NYPD Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, has claimed he is not happy with the network’s decision last year to end the hit series this fall.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” the actor told TV Insider. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods, but about it still being wildly successful.”

Noting  that the series was #9 in a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024, he said, “My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go.”

Selleck continued, “I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’ I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe.”

While explaining his disappointment about the series coming to a close, Selleck said that more than anything, he would miss the other actors the most.

“The family of actors is as close as the Reagan family and the characters that they play,” he said. “There’s isn’t a single one of them who didn’t want to come back. Most shows don’t end that way — there’s petty jealousy and all sorts of things — and we seemed to overcome that.”

Selleck has starred alongside Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan and Will Estes since the show premiered in September 2010, and said that when the show concluded, fans were sure to be upset.

“CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it,” he said at the time.

The hit series had an impressive 14-year run on CBS, becoming the second-longest-running scripted show on CBS behind NCIS, with 21 seasons.

Although filming for the show has ended, fans can still expect to see Selleck at the conclusion of Blue Bloods’ last season. The final episodes will air on Oct. 18.

  • Totally disappointed that the show has been cancelled. To say that I am annoyed is an understatement. CBS you should be ashamed and whomever made this decision should be FIRED.
