Tom Holland Helps Broker Disney-Sony Deal For ‘Spider-Man’ Rights

Tom Holland, 23, best known for his role in Spider-Man, has just come to the rescue in the film industry’s latest quarrel.

There has been a long-running dispute between Disney CEO Bob Iger and Sony Film Chairman Tom Rothman over the making of the next Spider-Man film. Back in 2015, the Disney and Sony executives announced their partnership, in which they would share the rights to the Spider-Man film. Unfortunately, the executives simply could not come to an agreement over finances for the third installment of the Marvel film – that is until Holland proposed a plan. The heroic star met with the executives and made multiple appeals to them before a settlement was made. Ultimately, Iger concluded that Disney would chip in 25 percent of the budget and receive 25 percent of the profits, as opposed to its usual 50/50 agreement.

It was in the best interest of both parties to continue the superhero franchise, as they profited more than they expected from their latest film, the Spider-Man spinoff Venom, which has been a fan-favorite, grossing $856 million.

Now thanks to Holland’s persistent efforts, fans can see the next installment of Spider-Man on the big screen July 16, 2021.
