Tom Hiddleston expressed his exasperation at being questioned about his short-lived fling with pop superstar Taylor Swift.
Hiddleston was in the middle of promoting his new movie Kong: Skull Island, and was once again the target of Swift-related questions. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, John Hiscock asked the English actor if he regretted “the publicity and gossip the romance engendered.”
The actor responded with a quip, saying “What should I regret, in your mind? I would rather not talk about this if that’s alright.”
Hiddleston and Swift dated for three months in 2016, which catapulted Hiddleston into the forefront of the romance gossip sections. But now, six months after their breakup, Hiddleston still finds himself the target of questions about their romance.
The Night Manager star went on to explain his feelings of vexation, saying, “I’m just thinking about this. Everyone is entitled to a private life. I love what I do and I dedicate myself with absolute commitment to making great art and great entertainment, and in my mind I don’t conflict the two. My work is in the public sphere and I have a private life. And those two things are separate.”
Hiddleston had to repeat those sentiments when The Today Show host Savannah Guthrie asked him about Swift.
He let out a burdened sigh, then took a long pause.
“Well, um…Yeah. It’s…You know, I make a clear distinction between my work, which I absolutely dedicate myself to, which is for the public. I really believe in that relationship between an actor and the audience, and…you can’t call yourself an actor without the public.”
