Tom Hanks’s Sister, Sandra Hanks Benoiton, Says Tom Hanks Is ‘Not Great’

Sandra Hanks Benoiton, sister of Tom Hanks, opened about the actor’s condition after he and his wife, actress Rita Wilson, tested positive for coronavirus. Benoiton, who is stuck in quarantine in Italy, where she moved in 2016, has been communicating long-distance with her Academy Award-winning brother. “He’s not great, but still okay,” revealed recently Benoiton to the British newspaper The Daily Mail.

Hanks first discussed his coronavirus affliction on March 11 in a post to his Instagram page.

The picture in the post is of a pair of latex medical gloves hanging out of a hazardous materials bag, which has been used a trash bag for a waste basket. The cryptic picture was accompanied by a worrying announcement – he and Wilson are being quarantined outside of the United States. “Hello, folks. @ritawilson and I are down here in Australia,” Hanks began his post. He then detailed he and his wife’s symptoms. “We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too,” Hanks wrote. “To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,” he continued.

“Well, now. What to do next?” asked Hanks in his post. The two-time Oscar winner discussed how he and Wilson are being required to follow medical protocols, which will require the couple to be, “tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires.” Despite the worrying situation Hanks and Wilson find themselves in, they appear to have taken an optimistic approach to their quarantine. “Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?” the actor posited.

Benoiton also appears to be trying to look on the brighter side. “[Am I] shocked? No. He’s an actor, not a god [but] medical care in Australia is good,” she said.
