Tom Hanks’ Son, Chet Hanks, Recreates Tom Cruise’s Viral Couch Jump 20 Years Later On ‘Drew Barrymore Show’

Chet Hanks, the son of actor Tom Hanks, recreated Tom Cruise‘s infamous couch-jumping moment nearly 20 years later during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show.

“This is my first time on a talk show ever,” Hanks told Barrymore on March 18. “And there’s something that I’ve always wanted to do. Can I do it?”

“OK,” the host replied.

“Alright, look, I’m gonna do this, but I need you guys – it’s only gonna work if you guys cheer really loud, OK, like, you got to scream, you got to lose your minds, or else I’m gonna look stupid,” Hanks asked the audience. “Can I count on you?”

After the audience shouted, “Yes,”  he counted to three and jumped on top of the couch, holding his hands over his head. Then, he leaped to the floor, got on one knee, and hit the ground with his fist. 

Hanks then ran over to Barrymore, grabbed her hands, and screamed excitedly in her face.

“OK, that was good,” he stated after he returned to his seat. “Did you guys get the reference?”

“Oh my God, Tom Cruise,” Barrymore mentioned. “Yes, of course, oh, I love it.”

On May 23, 2005, Cruise jumped on a couch while proclaiming his love for his then-girlfriend, Katie Holmes, on Oprah, who he would later marry in 2006.

In July 2024, Hanks accidentally encouraged white supremacists and other hate groups through his use of the phrase “White Boy Summer,” which he introduced in 2021 to promote an embrace of “fly” white boys, but last summer, it was since co-opted by extremist elements.

During an appearance on the reality TV show Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets in July 2024, the model revealed that he often felt “completely f—ing worthless” as a child even though he was the son of a famous actor.
