Tom Hanks’ $50 Million Film ‘Here’ Flops At The Box Office, Making Disastrous $5 Million On Opening Weekend

Tom Hanks‘ new film, Here, only made $5 million at the box office during its opening weekend.

Hanks teamed up with Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis and co-star Robin Wright for the film, which follows multiple couples and families who inhabit the same home over the course of a century. Despite the all-star team and its $50 million production value, Here has failed to deliver in revenue.

According to Deadline, multiple studios originally passed on the film due to it being “a risky and difficult movie for broad audiences.” Zemeckis said former Miramax head Bill Block is to thank for Here making it to the big screen.

“I have to give all the credit to Bill Block who had the courage and had the vision to understand the movie and make it,” he said on Deadline‘s “Crew Call” podcast. “He’s the one guy who had the conviction to do this. That was fantastic. Thank god that he was there to do it.”

Zemeckis added that “the theatrical movie business is in a stressful situation right now,” which may explain Here‘s initial performance at the box office, despite Hanks’ credibility within the industry.

Back in August, Hanks warned against AI-generated advertisements using his face.
