Tom Daley surprised his fans on Monday when he announced via a YouTube video that he was dating a guy – who has now been identified as Dustin Lance Black.

Daley, 19, and Black, the Academy Award winning Milk screenwriter, have reportedly been dating for several months, according to E! News. Back in October, Black, 39, and Daley were caught on camera leaving The Coffee Bean in Hollywood. Daley’s rendezvous with the openly gay and passionate LGBT activist failed to inspire widespread speculation about his sexuality, as he had recently denied being gay to The Mirror.

The Olympic diver came out earlier this week in a five-minute YouTube video that highlighted his recent relationship.

“Come spring, this year, my life changed. Massively. When I met someone and it made me feel so happy, so safe and everything just feels great. That someone is a guy,” Daly said. “And it did take me by surprise a little bit,” he added. “It was always in the back of my head that it could happen, but it wasn’t until the spring of this year that something clicked. It felt right. Like I said, my whole world just changed right there and then.”

Since he shared the YouTube video, Daley has repeated taken to social media to offer thanks to those offering support.

The athlete has also taken the time to retweet some of his more famous fans – including Lady Gaga and a wisecracking Stephen Fry.

Did Dustin Lance Black Confirm Relationship?

While Daley has been open about his relationship status, he’s yet to confirm the identity of his boyfriend. Black has yet to comment on the speculation that he’s the one making the Olympic-medalling heartthrob “feel so happy.” However, he did make a joke on Twitter that could be taken as an admission of being the guy in Daley’s life.

Black, who had been in Russia for a screening of Milk at an LGBT film festival in St. Petersburg, is currently working on two screenplays – Under the Banner of Heaven and Barefoot Bandit – and is set to direct Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight in the spring. Daley, meanwhile, will continue training in the pool in preparation for the 2016 Olympics in Rio and serving as a host for reality TV show Splash.
