Fresh off the boat from his world tour promoting Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, Tom Cruise and daughter Suri spent the weekend celebrating Katie Holmes' 33rd birthday in New York City. After a big dinner at Buddakan in Manhattan's trendy Meatpacking District, which was also attended by Holmes' parents, Cruise, 49, carted away a sleepy Suri, who seems to really enjoy having her daddy home.

Besides adding a candle to mommy's birthday cake, there were other celebration-worthy moments for the Cruise family this past weekend. Ghost Protocol was number three at the box office despite the fact that it only opened in limited release. It also won rave reviews from critics, scoring a 95% on RottenTomatoes.com. This news bodes well for the film's full opening this weekend and proves Cruise still has what it takes to open a big action movie, even if he is leaving the franchise behind.

Ghost Protocol director Brad Bird has been giving Cruise much of the credit for the film's success. "We equally like things pushed, but certainly if you want to push it, Tom is your guy," Bird told Moviefone.
