Tom Brokaw Accused By Two Women Of Sexual Harassment

Former NBC News correspondent Tom Brokaw has been accused of sexual harassment by two women.

Another former NBC News correspondent Linda Vester came forward and said he made unwanted sexual advances towards her, as well as showing up to her hotel room uninvited and trying to kiss her in 1994. She also alleged that he groped her while they were in a conference room and grabbed her from behind.

“Nobody acted like anything wrong was happening, but I was humiliated,” she told Variety.

Vester explained that she did not come forward about the sexual misconduct earlier because she feared the affect it would have on her career. “I felt like this man could destroy my career so if he said he’s coming over I have to let him come over,” she said. “He’s the most important man at NBC News. I was terrified.”

She also explained that this is normal to the culture at NBC long before the Matt Lauer scandal, women just had to keep their head down when it came to misconduct. “There was a culture at NBC News, in my experience, where women who raise questions about misconduct get labeled as troublemakers,” she said. “It can torpedo your career. I already knew that, so I didn’t want to make any trouble. I had just been hired full-time, and I wanted to be able to do my job. I did my best to collect myself and get on with my work.”

Following these allegations, Brokaw has denied there being any cases of misconduct. He explained that she asked for advice in regards to her career. “I met with Linda Vester on two occasions, both at her request, 23 years ago because she wanted advice with respect to her career at NBC,” Brokaw said via a spokesperson. “The meetings were brief, cordial and appropriate, and despite Linda’s allegations, I made no romantic overtures towards her at that time or any other.”

Another woman, who chose to stay anonymous, also came forward about misconduct against Brokaw. She is a production assistant in the 90s when he put her hands on his chest and invited her to his office to discuss her career. She denied the invitation but did not report the incident.

Brokaw did not comment on the second allegation against him.
