Tom Brady revealed that he will not be one of the millions of Americans tuning in to Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday, Feb. 2.
Brady and the New England Patriots lost to the Denver Broncos last weekend in the AFC Championship Game. It marks the second year in a row that Brady has been unable to lift his team out of the conference championship and into the Super Bowl. Watching the Denver Broncos, led by rival quarterback Peyton Manning, fight for the Lombardi trophy against the Seattle Seahawks is not a part of his post-season plans.
“I don’t have much of a rooting interest, truthfully. Those games are hard to watch,” Brady told WEEI’s Dennis & Callahan on Monday. “I don’t see myself sitting down to enjoy a football game or watch it. Our season is over. Truthfully, I couldn’t care less about watching a game. That’s pretty much how I feel.”
Despite the Patriots' loss on Sunday, Brady is hesitant to classify the season as a waste for the team, which lost a number of its core starters for the season – including the jailed Aaron Hernandez. “I think there’s a lot to be gained by seasons like this,” Brady admitted. “You see players that have really emerged to become dependable players for our team and there’s a lot of things to be gained from it."
“But at the same time,” Brady elaborated, focusing back on the disappointment in the defeat. “We’re not here — I think we’ve established a certain level of play that we’re not satisfied unless we’re the last team standing.”
Brady has led the Patriots to the Super Bowl five times, leaving the field the victor on three of those occasions. He’s also won two Super Bowl MVP awards.
