Tina Fey‘s uncanny impersonation of Sarah Palin was resurrected on last night’s Saturday Night Live.
In the shows’s cold open last night, Fey made light of the Iowa rally earlier this week where the former Alaska governor endorsed presidential candidate, Donald Trump.
“I wanted to take a break from my full-time career of writing things on Facebook to fly down here and lend my support to the next United States president, Donald J. Trump,” Fey said as she opened.
A crazy-eyed Darrell Hammond, playing Trump, clapped along with Palin’s speech while remarking, “She’s crazy, isn’t she! Two Corinthians short of a Bible!”
Meanwhile, Fey showed the same skepticism. “Guess what, America, I don’t really think this guy should be president,” she confessed to the camera. “I’m just here ’cause he’s promised me a spot in his cabinet. And I belong in a cabinet ’cause I’m full of spice and I’ve got a great rack.”
The skit poked fun at the unusual speech Palin gave after an apparent teleprompter fail. Fey even donned Palin’s memorable Star Spangled Banner sweater. The skit also didn’t leave out Palin’s personal life. “We’ve seen our own children targeted by the police for no reason other than they committed some crimes,” she said of her son, Track Palin, who was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend last week.
Fey’s impersonation of Palin has gained popularity over the years, and it was no surprise when the comedian brought it back for last night’s skit. In December, Fey brought back Palin and Amy Poehler did here Hillary Clinton impression when they hosted SNL and gave the show its second-best ratings in nearly two years.
