A so-called “alt-right” and white nationalist party gathered at a restaurant outside of D.C. Monday night.
Among those in attendance was former reality star Tila Tequila, who was photographed giving the Nazi salute. She then took it upon herself to post this photo to her Twitter account along with the caption “Seig heil.” Her Twitter page was suspended immediately, and the post has been removed, but can be seen here.
The dinner was sponsored by the National Policy Institute, a white nationalist organization that supported Donald Trump in his presidential campaign. Protestors flocked to the restaurant but were chased away by police. The term “alt-right,” it is argued, is just a cover up for the word Nazi. And with the attendees raising their arms in Nazi salutes and shouting “seig heil,” it is obvious what the National Policy Institute is mirroring.
The restaurant, Maggiano’s Little Italy, has since apologized for the incident, saying the reservation was made the day-of and under a different name, so they were unaware what the event would be. In a statement, the restaurant declared it will donate the $10,000 made in profit of the event to the D.C. office of the Anti-Defamation League, “which for decades has been working to bring people together in peace and understanding.”
