‘Tiger King’ Star Carole Baskin Tricked Into Giving Her First Interview Since Documentary’s Release

Carole Baskin, a featured subject of the hit Netflix show Tiger King, was tricked into giving one of her first interviews since appearing in the documentary by YouTube pranksters pretending to be Jimmy Fallon. But apparently, she isn’t too angry about it.

Youtubers Josh Pieters and Archie Manners uploaded their video Sunday titled “We Tricked Carole Baskin into Giving Us Her First Interview Since Tiger King,” which shows all the ways the British guys believably became Fallon. They posed as producers for the show, and used clips of Fallon from other interviews to ask Baskin questions through video chat.

The video shows that although Baskin and her current husband and lawyer, Howard, were not willing to do the interview at first, they agreed when they were told it would only be about cats, not the documentary, which she reportedly despises.

The interview goes through how Baskin’s Big Cat Rescue has been handling dwindling tourism due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She said she had to let go of half of her volunteer staff, so now everyone is doing a lot more work.

“I work seven days a week,” she said. “But, I’m a workaholic, so I really love doing this work.”

Pieters and Manners also got her to introduce some clips of cats at the sanctuary with her classic phrase: “Hey all you cool cats and kittens it’s Carol at Big Cat Rescue.” They also got her to promote her proposed law to save big cats that are kept as pets in the United States.

Baskin responded to the prank on Monday morning via statements to various news outlets.

“I was suspicious as we were doing it because the questions appeared taped. But had no idea it would turn out to be such a fun prank,” Baskin told CNN. Overall, the prank could have been much meaner, and Pieters and Manners gave her a platform to talk about her proposed legislation.

“It gave us a very welcome good laugh. I appreciate their cleverness and that they created their video in a way that I don’t feel was in any way mean spirited,” her statement continued.
