Massad Boulos, President-elect Donald Trump’s Middle Eastern adviser and father-in-law of Tiffany Trump, spent the last two decades as a truck and machinery salesman for a Nigerian company under the guise of being a billionaire business guru.
According to The New York Times, the company Boulos worked for profited $66,000 in 2023. The investigation found a company named Boulos Enterprises, owned by a different family with the same surname, that was often confused with Boulos’ firm being the one with billions in revenue.
International media outlets, including The Economist, have profiled Boulos, heralding his business prowess as a “successful Lebanese-American businessman.” The highly connected businessman has called himself a “tycoon,” earning him high praise from President-elect Trump, who called him a “dealmaker.”
In an interview with a Times reporter, Bolous claimed to be the chief executive of a Nigerian multibillion-dollar automotive manufacturing and distribution company. “It’s a big company. It has a long history,” he said in the interview.
However, the company is worth much less, estimated $865,000 at its current share price. Boulos’ stake is worth less than $2, at a measly $1.53, and records show that his father-in-law owns the company, COA Nigeria PLC.
When asked about his apparent lies and failures to tell the truth in previous interviews, Boulos claimed he had been confirming what other media outlets had incorrectly written about him.
Trump embraced Boulos on the campaign trail in 2024 to attract Arab-American voters and as an intermediary between himself and Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas. This is not the first time one of Trump’s associates has wrongly claimed to be a billionaire. Wilbur Ross, in the first Trump administration, also falsely claimed to be a billionaire. The Trump transition team declined to comment on the latest revelations.
