Disney star Tiffany Thornton was accused by her husband, musician Chris Carney, of kidnapping the couple’s two young sons. Thornton – along with Carney’s mother – has shutdown his accusations.
Carney told the Los Angeles Police Department that Thornton and his mother, Hot Springs, Ark., mayor Ruth Carney, adducted his children. He suggested that the Sonny With A Chance actress stole his children because she’s suffering from postpartum depression, reported TMZ. Carney also brought religion into his argument, claiming that Thornton may have taken the kids because she resented his lack of religion.
Thornton’s attorney has since spoken out on her client’s behalf. “Mr. Carney’s claims are false and are being dealt with in the proper forum,” the attorney told E! News. “The fact that Mr. Carney has chosen to contact the media to publicize these claims raises serious concerns for Ms. Thornton, who does not believe that Mr. Carney’s desire for media attention is in the best interest of the parties’ two young children.”
Ruth Carney shed more light on the situation, revealing that she and Thornton were taking the boys – Bentley, 3 months, and Kenneth, 20 months – to Thornton’s parents’ home because her son has an ongoing drinking problem and “went crazy,” she told TMZ. Chris has rebutted his mother’s accusations, saying he’s only a social drinker and had a beer in the refrigerator.
Furthermore, Ruth claimed that Thornton kept Chris aware of their whereabouts on the trip, using FaceTime to communicate with him daily.
