Tiffany Haddish Makes History As First Black Female Stand-Up Comic To Host ‘SNL’ [VIDEO]

Tiffany Haddish made Saturday Night Live history last night as the first black female stand-up comic to host the show in 43 seasons.

Haddish pumped big energy into the show as she made her introduction quickly. She mentioned the blockbuster summer hit, Girls Trip, while wondering where her cut of the profit was. She told the audience, “I Googled myself and it said, ‘I’m worth $2 million! What do I need to do to get this money? Fake my own death? Tupac this sh-t and move to Tyler Perry’s Island?’ ”

She then went into a little background of herself. “I grew up in foster care,” she said. “So I want to thank anyone who paid their taxes between 1990 and 1999.” Haddish told the audience that she would watxh SNL even as a child in the group home she had lived in. She jokingly told the audience that it wasn’t an easy thing living in a group home with mostly black and Hispanic kids because “trying to convince them that Dana Carvey was just as funny as Damon Wayans was a problem. I got stabbed twice, in a bunk bed.”

Haddish said that the producers of SNL told her to discuss politics or something that’s going on that’s of importance at the moment. She admitted to not watching the news or following it; she gets her news from the beauticians in the beauty shop. She then went on to talk about her last visit there and how they were talking about President Donald Trump‘s hair and the sexual harassment allegations that have been surfacing lately. Her “Tiff-Tip” to men: “If you got your thing-thing out and she got all her clothes on YOU’RE WRONG. YOU’RE IN THE WRONG.”

Her $4,000 Alexander McQueen skin-tight dress was also a punchline. She noted that she had already walked the red carpet with it. She assured the audience that the dress was too expensive to only be worn once, and that they would see her wear it again – maybe to her next wedding or to church.

The rest of the show was hit and miss, as always, some skits always resonate with the audience better than others. Her most memorable character was probably Boo Boo Jeffries, a fighter in a Mortal Combat-type game and the best skit was probably “The Last Black Unicorn.”

She played Cardi B in a faux-audition of the Lion King and the other skits; “Whiskers R We,” “Get Woke with Tamika,” and “The Dolphin Who Learned to Speak.”
