Tiffany Haddish, ‘Girls Trip’ Star, Clarifies Controversial Cosby Joke

Tiffany Haddish, the break-out star of Girls Trip, clarified a comment she made during an interview with The Los Angeles Times last week, in which, she named disgraced comedian Bill Cosby as one of her comedic inspirations.

As she was quoted in the Times, “Bill Cosby – I still want to work with Bill Cosby, I don’t care, I’ll drink the juice. I’ll drink the juice. I’ll take a nap. I don’t give a damn. [laughs] But seriously, I would love for him to play my grandfather in something.”

Haddish received a quick rebuke for her comments, which come off the heels of the mistrial of the sexual assault case brought by Andrea Constand against Cosby.

“I don’t know if you’ve ever been interviewed before. You do 27 interviews and you’re supposed to be humorous all that time,” Haddish said. “You’re gonna say some bad jokes. You’re gonna come up with a few not-good jokes. I was trying to make it seem like I’m not afraid to do anything. I’m not afraid of any kind of job, I’m not afraid to play any kind of role, as long as it doesn’t compromise my morals.”

She added, “I don’t agree with what he did, but at the end of the day, I’m not afraid of the big bad wolf. That’s what I was trying to say and I was trying to say it in a humorous way.”

Haddish later said that on that day in particular, she had already conducted over 20 interviews.

Cosby is currently out on bail following the jury’s inability to come to a unanimous decision about Cosby’s guilt in the 2004 alleged drugging and sexual assault of Constand in his Philadelphia home.

The comedian will face a retrial in November.

Additionally, Cosby has been accused of committing sexual crimes similar to those he allegedly committed against Constand by dozens of other women. Due to statutes of limitations laws, the majority of these cases will never see trial.
