New Line is currently in negotiations to get the rights to the Three’s Company TV series, which aired on ABC from 1977 to 1984. If the deal goes through, Abby Kohn and Mark Silverstein will be writing the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Robert Corn (Cocktail, Runaway Bride) will produce the movie with Don Taffner Jr.
Three’s Company followed the story of two single women – Janet (Joyce DeWitt) and Chrissy (Suzanne Somers) – who take on Jack Tripper (John Ritter) as a roommate. In order to not upset the landlords, they all conspire to make them believe that Jack is actually gay.
The show ran for a total of eight seasons on ABC. While DeWitt and Ritter stayed for the whole run, Somers left midway through. She was first replaced by Jenilee Harrison and then later by Priscilla Barnes.
Like the original TV show, the Three’s Company film would be set in the 70s. As of yet, there’s been no news on who is being considered to fill in the iconic roles of Jack, Janet and Chrissy.
